Today we lost one of the best and most important Disney Imagineers, Alice Davis. Wife to legendary Imagineer Mark Davis and Disney's top seamstress.  Alice attempted to get into the Chouinard Art Institute to learn how to be an animator since her passion was drawing; but, the Art Institute didn’t accept girls. They did, however, accept her to teach her to be a costume designer. Her first class was Fine Art, where they taught her about human anatomy and how muscles worked. The class instructor was Marc Davis. Alice began her career designing women’s lingerie and undergarments for the Beverly Vogue & Lingerie House in Los Angeles. It wasn’t until after she graduated and began working that she started up a friendship with Marc, whom she ended up marrying in 1956 at the age of 27. She quickly became the head designer. *Article was written on June 30, 2017 Disney is planning on changing the infamous Auctioneer scene in Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean in 2018, along with Disney World’s Pirates. We get the frequently spoken line  “We wants the redhead,”  from this attraction. Pirates first opened on March 16, 1967, just four months after Walt Disney passed away. Walt was only able to experience the Auctioneer scene before his passing. “Walt visited the show building in Disneyland and went on a tour with Marc Davis and a few other Imagineers. The boats’ water channel was not filled yet and all the sets were frame worked, so they were able to walk through. The Auction Scene was set up with the Auctioneer moving about. I have seen lots of blogs written titled “Things You Didn’t Know About Disneyland” or something similar. People would post them on my wall or tag me in the posts so I could read through them. The problem is I knew them all already, or they were very common Fun Facts like “Walt’s apartment above the firehouse,” “the basketball court in the Matterhorn,” or “the only real skull on Pirates of the Caribbean.” There are thousands of Fun Facts out there that are about Disneyland, or just Disney in general. I got tired of reading the same ones over and over again. That prompted me to write this blog with 20 Fun Facts that I can almost guarantee you don’t know, or if you did know them, at least give you more information about them with accompanying photos.
