A Fantasyland Basement

Image
Travis Larson is a huge Disney fan. Because he lives so far away from Disneyland, he decided to bring some of the magic to his house. Travis custom built the Fantasyland facades of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Peter Pan’s Flight, Pinocchio’s Daring Journey, Snow White’s Scary Adventures, Geppetto’s Workshop, and the Village Haus Restaurant. Travis began construction in 2008 to fill his 600 sq foot basement. After about 3-4 years at a cost of $5,000, we have its present-day appearance. He even has day and night lighting with ride music and crowd noise. Here are a bunch of photos of his basement and some of the works in progress. You can follow his YouTube channel YOUTUBE Or his Facebook page FACEBOOK If you like Disneyland and Disney Movies, you need a copy of my 700-page book that contains over 3,700 fun facts. www.DisneyGuy.org *Images are from Travis' Facebook page.

13th Anniversary of Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!

Image
Wow! Thirteen years since Mike and Sulley made it to the parks. On January 22, 2006, we were introduced to  Monsters, Inc.  Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!  in  Hollywood Pictures Backlot  in  California   Adventure . The space that houses the  Monsters, Inc.  (2001) inspired attraction sat vacant for 4 years while Disney tried to fill its void with a “wanted” attraction. You see, the space once housed  Superstar   Limo , a very mediocre and boring attraction. Guests would ride in a limo through the streets of Hollywood and see celebrities like Joan Rivers, Regis Philbin, Cher, Antonio Banderas, Cindy Crawford, Tim Allen, Jackie Chan, Drew Carey, Melanie Griffith, and Whoopi Goldberg. That attraction was there on  California Adventure’s  opening day February 8, 2001, and closed only eleven months later on January 11, 2002. Lets’ jump back in time and go on Superstar Limo as ...

Happy Anniversary Star Tours - All The History You Need

Image
Today marks the anniversary  of one of the most popular attractions in Disneyland,  Star Tours . It opened on January 9, 1987.  In the beginning, this race through space attraction wasn’t what it turned out to be. Originally, Disney was making a ride simulator attraction based on their sci-fi film The Black Hole (1979). With an estimated cost of $50 million, Disney felt it was too high of a price for a film that was only so-so in popularity. Heck, the movie only cost $20 million to produce and it only made $35 million at the box office. Disney decided to go another route. They would capitalize on their partnership with Lucas. Lucas had just produced Captain EO which was going to open up in September 1986. After a deal was made, both projects were in production. George and his team at ILM started work on the film for the attraction while Disney bought four flight simulators from the military for $500,000 each. Disney gutted out the building that once housed ...
